How to Respec Your Character in Baldur’s Gate 3

Made a build mistake? Baldur’s Gate 3 lets you completely rebuild any character at any point through Withers, the undead NPC in your camp. This guide covers exactly how to respec, what it costs, and the few limits to know.

Step 1: Unlock Withers

Withers is found in the Dank Crypt, near the Overgrown Ruins in Act 1. Free him from his sarcophagus, and he joins your camp. Once at camp, he offers two services: hirelings and respecs.

Step 2: Talk to Withers and Pick “Respec”

• Interact with Withers and choose the option to change a character’s class.
• Select the character you want to rebuild (your Tav, origin, or companion).
• Pay the fee: 100 gold per respec.

Step 3: Rebuild From Scratch

The respec screen lets you redo everything:

• Race (and its bonuses)
• Ability scores
• Class and subclass
• Background and skills

Respec vs. Hireling
